Nicholas took on his new duties as Assistant Director of Giving Kids, and wow! did he have some great events in Colorado! In events in three schools, his team brought the program to 230 kids. He had some great long-time volunteer team members to support him, and the school staff at these schools is exceptional. It takes the whole team, and strong leadership, and lots of love to make these events happen!
Janice Watson, with her "Summit County Giving Kids" branch served 168 kids! Even more amazing, Janice put together all her own donations and financed her event independently, she did all the planning with a school that was unfamiliar with the program, she did all those kids at a single school, over two days, and she got the press involved, resulting in a lovely article in the Summit Daily News. The kicker? It's her first year. She and her lovely husband helped us out in El Paso County in 2012, and then she just hit the ground running in Dillon this year. Way to go, Janice!
Dara directed events in Naples, Florida, where 125 kids were served in events at two locations. We learned that the elementary school system is the ideal venue for these events, and that trying to bring the program to a community center this year was much more challenging. We were pleased to have a number of volunteers from FCC Naples, and excellent staff at our local elementary school made our first event here a huge success. We look forward to bringing the program to more schools here next year!
2013 totals: 523 kids served, in three counties, two states - my, how Giving Kids has grown! Help us keep growing - please consider donating today.
