I am so excited about the responses I've received to my fundraising efforts. I sent Change for Change fundraiser requests to the staff at the schools we serve, and to just about everyone on my contacts list. I also stepped out there and talked to my new friends in my new community here in Naples, with promising results. At least some of the people I've talked to have caught the vision of this program, and have pledged active and ongoing help, and some others have chosen to support Giving Kids financially. The head of one local organization has been enthusiastic and helpful, and I plan to hold onto the joy and hope my meeting with him created as I do the hard work ahead of me to continue and expand Giving Kids.
When I moved here, I envisioned handing off fundraising and volunteer recruitment for Giving Kids Colorado to one of our awesome volunteers, and expanding to create Giving Kids Florida in some of the schools here. I have a new partner this year in Colorado who has offered to help with volunteer recruitment. I truly hope I find someone to head up local fundraising efforts in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado for next year. I will continue to contact schools, plan schedules, and order gifts and supplies for the time being, and my son will continue to transition to a more and more active role. In Florida, I hope that next year I will be able to offer Giving Kids to one of the schools here. Unfortunately, I currently live in a community with a huge wealth disparity, and not everyone appreciates being reminded of it. I think we'll concentrate our efforts in the neediest school communities to the north and east of us, where the wealthy patrons of my area dare not tread.
